In recent years, cauliflower has established a permanent place on our plates. Home cooks have gotten inventive by creating "steaks," mashed potatoes, and even pizza crusts with this vegetable!

Discovering the variety of this vegetable can be done by first learning how to cook it for cauliflower rice. You'll be astounded at how quickly you can chop up florets into grains. Cauliflower rice may be prepared more quickly than grains, which is a benefit for those hectic weeknights.

You'll use cauliflower rice to boost the flavor and nutrients of any dish, whether it's sautéed, stir-fried, or just tossed raw into a salad.

What is cauliflower rice?

Cauliflower rice is a completely grain-free, low-carb substitute for traditional white rice that is produced from cauliflower. A large head of cauliflower is quickly chopped into rice-sized pieces in a food processor to create fake rice.

Cauliflower's firm structure makes it simple to cut into tiny pieces and ensures that they retain their grain-like shape when cooked.

Steps in making cauliflower rice

When you have the biggest head of cauliflower you can find, it's time to rice! Cauliflower comes in a wide range of colors at the market, including the customary ivory shade as well as purple, orange, and vivid green.

Here are the steps in ricing cauliflower:

  1. Remove the brittle outer leaves and stems first.

  2. The head should next be cut into florets. Aim for 1- to 1 ½ -inch-long smaller florets. It becomes challenging to swiftly break them down into a uniform size if you cut them too large.

  3. Then, put the florets in batches in a food processor and pulse until they are broken up into grains. Some of the larger florets might not be chopped down. That's alright; just take them out and process them with the following batch.

Keep in mind that you don't want the cauliflower to become overly tiny. Otherwise, the appearance won't be as comparable to rice and the texture will turn mushy.

How to store cauliflower rice

For up to 10 days, raw cauliflower rice can be kept in an airtight container. Make a fresh batch if it begins to look gray or smell too sulfurous.

Cauliflower rice that has been cooked lasts up to 7 days, making it ideal for meal preparation.

Like regular rice, cauliflower rice can also be frozen. You can put one or two cup-sized pieces in a plastic bag that can be sealed. The bag of rice should be placed on the counter, compressed to spread the pieces out evenly while eliminating as much air as you can, then sealed and placed flat in the freezer.

The shelf life of frozen cauliflower rice is up to 30 days. Just allow it to defrost for at least 10 to 15 minutes at room temperature before using it, and then drain any extra moisture before cooking.
