Ingredients

For the Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 tsp Igotchu Seasonings Burger Philly
  • ½ tsp Igotchu Seasonings Garlic Lovers
  • ½ tsp Igotchu Seasonings Himalayan Salt & Pepper

For the Onions

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter

For the Sauce

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp Igotchu Seasonings Burger Philly

For the Sandwich

  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 tbsp softened butter

How to Make It

1. Caramelize the Onions

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring often until they become soft, golden, and caramelized. These sweet onions are what make this classic patty melt recipe, diner favorite, and comfort food sandwich so irresistible.

2. Make the Sauce

In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and Igotchu Seasonings Burger Philly until smooth. This creamy burger sauce adds the perfect finishing touch.

3. Prepare the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with Igotchu Seasonings Burger Philly, Garlic Lovers, and Himalayan Salt & Pepper. Mix gently and form into four thin oval patties slightly larger than your bread slices. This creates juicy, flavorful patties perfect for an easy homemade patty melt.

4. Cook the Patties

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and cook the patties for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Set aside.

5. Assemble the Patty Melts

Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. On the unbuttered side, spread a layer of the burger sauce. Add one slice of American cheese, a cooked beef patty, a generous pile of caramelized onions, one slice of Swiss cheese, and top with another slice of bread, buttered side facing out.

6. Grill Until Golden

Cook each sandwich over medium heat for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula until the bread is crispy and golden and the cheese is completely melted. This creates the ultimate cheesy patty melt, crispy grilled sandwich, and family dinner favorite.

7. Serve & Enjoy

Slice in half and serve hot with crispy fries, potato chips, onion rings, or dill pickles. Pair with extra burger sauce for dipping and enjoy every cheesy bite.
