Servings: 10–12

Ingredients

  • 1 prepared angel food cake, cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 1 (3.4-ounce) package vanilla instant pudding mix

  • 3 cups cold milk

  • 5–6 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

  • 2 cups whipped topping or freshly whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the vanilla instant pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes, or until the pudding begins to thicken. Refrigerate for 5 minutes.

  2. Wash, hull, and slice the strawberries.

  3. In a large trifle dish or glass serving bowl, arrange one-third of the angel food cake cubes in an even layer.

  4. Spread one-third of the vanilla pudding over the cake, followed by one-third of the sliced strawberries. If using whipped topping, spread a thin layer over the strawberries.

  5. Repeat the layers two more times, finishing with strawberries and a generous layer of whipped topping.

  6. Garnish with additional fresh strawberries and a few whole berries for an elegant presentation.

  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to blend.

Tips

  • For sweeter berries, toss the sliced strawberries with 2–3 tablespoons of sugar and let them sit for 15–20 minutes before assembling.

  • Add fresh blueberries or raspberries for a colorful mixed berry trifle.

  • Individual trifle cups or mason jars make beautiful single-serving desserts.

  • Assemble the trifle several hours ahead of time for the best flavor and texture.

  • Garnish with fresh mint leaves just before serving for a beautiful finishing touch.
